This viral tweet proves that love conquers all, even bad jokes

The decade is coming to a close, and it's easy to feel cynical about where you were at the beginning and where you are now. Between everyone else sharing their accomplishments and realizing how fucked the environment is, you may be ready to log off forever (or at least, until after the holidays).

Well, allow me to present a series of tweets that will not only not make you hate the internet more than you already do, but tweets that will actually surprise and delight you:

Twitter user @bloy, who according to BuzzFeedNews is a 30-something named Jared Matthews, tweeted over 10 years ago now that he, "Met a really hot girl who was half japanese half philipino. Think i ruined it by constantly callin her a jalapeno."

The tweet went viral back in 2009, but Matthews was not really active on the site. Months earlier, he'd tweeted the following:

While he had not tweeted since 2009, he came back with a vengeance on Tuesday. It appears that Matthews has experienced a glow up in the last decade, as many of us have. "The reason I came back to twitter is because I had noticed how much the app changed," he told Mashable over Twitter DM. "I had also seen that twitter was going to start deleting accounts that were inactive, which made me remember that I had this old account."

Matthews kept one-upping himself, it seemed, quote RTing that he was back now. Then, he declared that he married Analyn, the woman he called a "jalapeno." The quote tweet went even more viral than the original one, with over 145,000 RTs at the time of writing.

Now Matthews is basking in his viral fame on Twitter, doling out advice and retweeting admiring fans. "It just feels surreal," he said. "I never would had expected this." He knows the "fame" won't last long — so he's trying to "make the most of it" by helping people with relationship problems.

Congrats to the happy couple, and congrats to everyone on social media whose Grinch hearts grew a couple sizes because of this story.
