[Diplomatic circuit] US ambassador’s residence reopens to public after trespassing incident
“We opened Habib House grounds to the public today. Terrific event! Partnered with Seoul City to showcase this wonderful historic treasure in the heart of Seoul. Thank you Seoul Metropolitan Agency for powerful support,” US Ambassador to Seoul Harry Harris said on social media Saturday.
A group of 19 students climbed a ladder to enter the compound, protested the proposed hike in defense cost-sharing and called on Harris to “leave.”
The police has since beefed up security around Habib House, while four students have been arrested.
Following the intrusion Harris had sent out a tweet saying, “2nd incident in 13 months in the Heart of Seoul” but that the “cats are OK. Thanks @polinlove.” The account tagged is the official account of the National Police Agency.
